Babel

Babel

Babel began as an A4 sketch of a flying buttress and has fermented into an architeratological monstrosity. Columns and pediments multiply like viruses and bacteria, infecting the purity of Gothic arcades. Deco spores fill the air. A virulent Baroque acne mars the face of an innocent Mayan temple. Babel is spreading. It is growing. It is consuming, devouring. It had Viollet-le-Duc for breakfast and Borges with a cup of tea at eleven. Its stomach is rumbling for some Hawksmoor. This drawing will soon be complete, but the steps and rose windows and balustrades will continue to multiply: Babel is a disease of the brain. Soon enough another drawing will become inevitable, and thereafter another, and so on - each a different view into a chaos of possibilities.
